Parks & Beaches
Tunnels Beach
This is the perfect beach for snorkeling on the North Shore, running 2-miles along Kauai resorts to Ha'ena Beach Park. The center has an enormous half-moon shaped reef 1/8 mile offshore creating a perfect location for divers. Tunnel Beach is also a great place for swimmers with its shallow, sandy and calm waters.
Shipwreck Beach
This beach received its name from an old, wooden shipwreck lifted sand dune called Makawehi Point. This is also a popular destination for hiking along its cliffs, fishing, surfing, boogie boarding, body surfing, and windsurfing. It's wonderful cliffs and unusual natural formations make this beach great for exploration.
Po'ipu Beach
Po'ipu is the major beach on the South Shore and swimming here is almost always safe, especially on the left side of the beach. The sandbar at this beach is actually an unusual phenomena that occurs when ocean currents rush toward the beach from opposite directions and deposit their sand forming a tombolo. This one is called Nukumoi Point.

Kauai Culture
Bell Stone
Bell stones can be found on just about every Hawaiian Island. These stones, if struck in a particular spot emit a tone able to be heard from great distances. They were usually "rung" to signal a significant event. These rocks were precisely placed and used to calibrate the Hawaiian calendars to the summer and winter solstices.
Fern Grotto
For a fun Hawaii adventure, travel up the Wailua River to a lava rock grotto covered with tropical ferns. At the grotto, you will be serenaded by Hawaiian musicians playing local traditional songs. The trip up this historic and sacred river takes about 40 minutes on a flat bottom riverboat. On the way to the Fern Grotto, you will encounter numerous photo opportunities of the tropical grasslands lining the river and cloud-capped Mt. Waialeale looming in the background.
Kauai Museum
Explore a museum housing treasures of the island's heritage, covering everything from feathered leis to vintage photographs. Come see a permanent display called The Story of Lana'i. It is filled with Hawaiian artifacts and local history. Traveling exhibits and events are also hosted here year-round.

The picturesque waters of Poipu make it a very popular beach, even with local marine life. Large green sea turtles often swim in these waters, while endangered Hawaiian Monk seals have been known to sunbathe unabashedly on the shore.
